I am so glad to see another knitter who cannot bear to toss out a hand-knitted sock. I figure that when I cannot mend mine, I will frog them and knit wrist warmers. And then Christmas ornaments. And then, maybe then, the birds may have the scraps for their nests in the springtime.

My darning basket is so full at the moment, I don't have time to knit more socks! It is wroth it to darn, but darning isn't as much fun as knitting.
Its interesting to see where different people wear out their socks. Mine always get thin at the ball of the foot and never at the heel.
I don't darn my hand knit socks - but I admit sometimes it is hard to throw them out. Good luck fixing them!
